Renunciation of Citizenship

Before starting any request, verify that your state of residence falls under this Consulate’s jurisdiction.

Prior to starting a renunciation request, check the Jurisdiction guidelines to verify whether your state of residence falls under the Lebanese Embassy (Washington, D.C.) or one of its affiliated Consulates General (Los Angeles, Detroit, or New York).

The following steps may be completed by mail or in person:

  • A notarized affidavit clearly mentioning the full name, place and date of birth, Lebanese passport number and US passport number of the applicant, and the reason for the renunciation. Download a sample here.
  • The original Lebanese passport, plus the Lebanese ID or extract of individual/family civil registration (إخراج قيد عائلي أو إفرادي).
  • A notarized copy of the applicant’s US passport.
  • A letter from the U.S. authorities / organization stating the reason for the renunciation of the applicant’s Lebanese citizenship.
  • One large empty, stamped, self-addressed envelope from USPS or FedEx (in-person applicants exempt). Keep a copy of the tracking number — the Consulate is not responsible for return mail.
  • Full address and telephone number of the applicant.

Fee

  • $1,080 — money order / cashier check payable to the Consulate General of Lebanon in Los Angeles
